OTAGO CENTRAL RAIL TRAIL
SHORT COURSE DUATHLON 2006
Venue: The duathlon will be held on Sunday 5 February 2006 along a scenic 33 km section of the Otago Central Rail Trail, a former railway line converted by the Department of Conservation for recreational use. Check out www.otagocentralrailtrail.co.nz for more information about the Rail Trail.
The OCRT duathlon involves three stages:
6 km run Tiroiti (Capburn Bridge) to Hyde township (SH 87)
22 km mountain bike Hyde township to Ngapuna Road
5 km run Ngapuna to Middlemarch
Events: Individual Men Team Men
Individual Women Team Women
Team Mixed (up to 3 people per team)
Age Groups: Individuals 35 – 44; 45 – 54; 65+
Teams 35 – 44 and 45+
General Race Rules:
• The age restrictions and team requirements for the Masters Games Duathlon are contained in the NZ Masters Games Registration Book.
• Entries are not transferable to other competitors. If this occurs both competitors will be disqualified.
• An individual competitor may not be part of a team.
• Competitors must not be accompanied or paced by cyclists, vehicles or unentered competitors. If this occurs the competitor will be disqualified.
• Competitors must keep to the Rail Trail. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
• The race number must be worn as issued and must not be altered. Only competitors wearing official race numbers will be allowed to finish.
• Marshals will be located at key road crossing and competitors must adhere to their directions. Vehicle traffic has right of way at crossings.
• Helmets are compulsory on the cycle stage.
• Competitors must make their own arrangements for transport of bikes between stages.
• Drink stations will be located at each transition point.
• Every team member must do at least one complete stage.
• All stages must be completed by the team member starting the stage.
Transport: Middlemarch township is one hours drive from Dunedin and is the closest town to where the event is being held.
Competitors are required to provide their own transport and race support for the event.
Please make your own travel arrangements if you intend taking the train back to Dunedin.
General: Duathlon competitors need to be self sufficient. The course is along the Otago Central Rail Trail which has a gravel surface, in generally good condition. No roads are closed for this event. Normal road rules apply and motorists have right of way at all times. There is one tunnel on the first run stage so a torch is advised.
