The Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin will host the NZ Masters Games next year in February. The announcement was made on Tuesday 9th August at the official launch of the 2012 NZ Masters Games which was held at the stadium, where the new major sponsor for the Games was also announced, The Trusts Community Foundation.
We are pleased to announce the Ambassadors for the 2012 Dunedin Masters Games are Dick Tayler and Sir Colin Meads and are delighted to introduce another new ambassador, Leigh Gibbs.
New sporting events to feature next year include the fastest growing sport in Australasia- dragon boat racing, plus trampolining joins the line up of gymnastic sports and bocce, a Special Olympic sport, similar to bowls will be another first, taking the total number of sporting events on offer to a record of 72.
Games Manager, Aaron Joy says, " Dunedin proves every time that it can successfully stage the country's largest multi-sports event and now with the venue such as the Forsyth Barr Stadium its reputation can only be enhanced."
The night was a huge success, with guests most impressed with the stadium and its facilites. We are really looking forward to having the games village based at the stadium, and are sure you will all agree.
