Otago Community Trust Games Hub & Entertainment 2020

The Masters Games is renowned for the entertainment and social occasions and these are a big part of the Masters Games Experience.  It provides you with the opportunity to meet up with like-minded sports enthusiasts from around New Zealand and overseas. The Otago Community Trust Games Hub provides a central location for all of this to happen.  

The Otago Community Trust Games Hub is the place to be during the 2020 Masters Games. Located in the Octagon, it all happens in the Hub with nine fun-filled days and nights of entertainment and action. We have some sports being competed, some medal ceremonies awarded, and of course, with all the day and night time action happening this is the a great event for spectators and Masters alike.

If you are travelling solo or want to meet up with some friends make you way to the Masters Club Meeting point each evening.  Located in the OCT Games Hub, look for the Masters Club sign and check out the meeting time on the entertainment timetable below. 

Saturday 1 February

Official Opening Ceremony
The official opening of the games kicks off with the parade of sports, the reading of the oath and the lighting of the Games flame.  Meet out Ambassadors and enjoy an evening of entertainment.

Shane Cortese and the 8 Track Band
Party the night away with Shane and the band, sing along to kiwi anthems, put your dancing shoes on an celebrate the opening of the games.

Sunday 2 February

Masters Fitness Expo
Come along and have a look at all things fitness and sport!  The Masters Fitness Expo will be held in the central carriageway in the Octagon.  Check out demonstrations, join in on a workout and grab yourself some goodies!

Evening Sounds
In the evening you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the acoustic tones from Dunedin brother and sister duo ‘Cloudie”.  DnD Showband follow, where you can dance the night away to 50’s classics, rock anthems, classic kiwi hits, disco and much more.

Monday 3 February

ODT Quiz Night
Quiz Master Shane Cortese is all set to test your general knowledge.  Get your team together (or come along and we’ll find one for you) and put your knowledge to the test and win some great prizes.

Movie Night – Elton John’s ‘Rocketman’
To get in the mood for Tuesday’s Elton John Dunedin concert, bring your blanket, sit back, relax and enjoy  the ‘Rocketman’ movie on the Hub’s outdoor big screen.

Wednesday 5 February

Masters Comedy Gala
For a night of laughs and entertainment, come along to the Masters Comedy Gala.  Headline act for the evening is Gary McCormick and Sir Tim Shadbolt.  The McCormick and Shadbolt Comedy Show is a rough and tumble discussion about life and sport.  Get in early as seats will be limited!

Thursday 6 February

Loose & Colourful
A local Dunedin band, consisting of talented musicians of Pacific descent, will bring a range of music to the Masters Stage including reggae classics, reinvented ‘oldies”, R’n’B throwbacks, timeless pop and current chart tunes.  Featuring iconic vocal harmonies, held together by a highly skilled rhythm section, and topped off with exhilarating guitar and keyboard solos – you are in for a great night of music.

The Midtown Boys & The Divas
Tonight’s entertainment on the Hub stage brings together slick dance moves, great costumes, amazing vocals.  The Midtown Boys are back for 2020, and with The Divas hitting the stage, be prepared for an evening of entertainment.

Pulse Energy Highlanders VS Sharks Super Rugby
We’re kicking out the students for the night and giving Masters the chance to relive your student days in the ZOO at Forsyth Barr Stadium. Bring the team along to the Highlanders opening match of the 2020 Investec Super Rugby season. Sports Have A Go Day
If running is not you thing, try your hand in sports such as Badminton, Cornhole, Table Tennis and many more.  This is your change to try a new sport.

Halo
Our final part night brings Auckland’s ‘Halo” band to town.  A favourite of past Masters Games, this 7-piece band really gets the crowd rocking and up dancing.  One not to be missed.

Late afternoon enjoy the acoustic tones from Dunedin brother and sister duo ‘Cloudie’. Performing a variety of music, both covers and originals, ranging from Ed Sheeran through to The Beatles. 

Movie Night – ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
The Bohemian Rhapsody movie hits the Octagon outdoor screen in the evening.  Bring a bean bag or blanket, sit back and enjoy the story and music of Freddie Mercury and Queen.
